The short version
We collect as little as possible. If you give us your email address, we use it to email you and nothing else. We do not sell your information to anyone, ever. If you want out, one click and you are out.
The longer version is below, because the short version is not legally sufficient, but the short version is the truth.
Who we are
Brett’s Birds is a brand of A Little Dose of Happy LLC. Our website is brettsbirds.com. You can reach a real human at hello@brettsbirds.com.
If you give us your email address
When you sign up for our email list, we collect your email address and the date you signed up. That is it. We do not ask for your name, your location, or anything else, because we do not need them.
We use that address to tell you when the site opens and to send occasional notes about birds, new work, and new things for sale. You will not hear from us often. We would rather send you something worth opening than something on a schedule.
Our email is run through MailerLite, which stores the list for us and records whether emails were opened or clicked. You can read their privacy policy at mailerlite.com. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and it works immediately. You do not have to explain yourself and we will not send a “sorry to see you go” campaign.
What happens automatically when you visit
Our web host, WPX, keeps standard server logs that include your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visited. This is how any website on the internet works, and the logs are used for security and troubleshooting. WordPress may also set a small number of technical cookies needed for the site to function.
Who we share your information with
Only the companies that make the site run: our web host and our email provider, named above. That is the entire list. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
Your email address stays on our list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Server logs are kept for a short period by our host and then discarded.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us what information we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@brettsbirds.com and we will take care of it. If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, California, or anywhere else with specific privacy laws, those rights apply to you here and we will honor them regardless of where you are, because we think everyone should have them.
The birds have privacy too
We do not publish precise locations of nesting or sensitive birds. Every photograph we post has its GPS data removed before it goes online. When we tell you where a photo was taken, we keep it general on purpose.
This is not a legal requirement. It is a choice. A published nest location can bring a crowd, and a crowd can cost a bird its brood. If we ever tell you exactly where we found something, it is because that bird is safe to find.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us their email address, write to us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. When the online store opens we will add sections covering orders, shipping, and payment. We will not quietly expand what we collect and hope nobody notices.
